Frequently asked questions
Does SeventyKeys record what I type?
No. The keyboard is read in read-only mode (a "listen only" CGEvent tap): SeventyKeys can neither modify, block nor replay a keystroke. The cartouche text lives in memory for the duration of the display, then disappears. Nothing is written to disk, nothing is sent over the network.
Why does macOS ask for a permission?
To draw a keystroke on screen, macOS requires the Accessibility authorization (sometimes "Input Monitoring"): it's the only technical way to know a key was pressed. SeventyKeys only uses it for the display, never for anything else.
Could my passwords show up on screen?
By default, no: only your shortcuts (combinations with ⌘, ⌃ or ⌥) are displayed, never free typing. The "show everything" option exists for specific demos but is unchecked by default and clearly discouraged in settings.
Does it work with OBS, QuickTime, Zoom?
Yes. The cartouches are drawn directly on screen, above every window: any recording or screen-sharing software picks them up automatically, no special setup needed on your end.
What's the difference between the website version and the App Store one?
It's the same app. On this website: a free 7-day trial, then a 12.90 CHF one-time license with automatic updates. On the App Store: direct purchase, updates through Apple. On rare setups, the App Store sandbox can refuse to read the keyboard; the website has no such limit.
